Been my go to spot since 2005! New management though it would be nice if they offered military discount too!
Love that this restaurant is still in business! Came here in 2010 when it was the first and original AYCE KBBQ. It's very simple here. Serve yourself with meats and veggies. No need to wait for a waiter/waitress to reorder. Just keep stuffing your face for as long as you can! Downside: parking is rough.
First review, but I came here to say the service was amazing. It was our first time here, as per a recommendation, and Chris was a friendly, great server to us. He answered our questions and helped us pick out the best meats. We really enjoyed the food. Loved it, thanks Jeong Won! :) p.s. I definitely recommend coming here hungry! So many options since it's an AYCE and all around lovely atmosphere.
If you're hungry with an empty stomach, Jeong Wong Korean BBQ is the place to go! It's an all you can eat buffet with options such as Wagyu, Bulgogi, rib eye, and seafood! They also offer side dishes as a pallet refresher like seaweed, pickled bean sprouts, kimchi and more. They also have sauces for you to dip your food and rice. But don't let these options make your eyes bigger than your stomach. Make sure to eat the amount that you know to prevent wasting food to avoid the $10 charge. Other than that, happy eating. The employees were very attentive about changing to fresh grills and help adjusting the heat for cooking. Our server Claudia was very sweet through the phone and in person, and was very helpful in showing us where things are at. The price per person is so worth it after eating 10+ plates of meat! When in town, this will for sure be a place to come again. Also- what interesting choices of decoration.
This is one of the OG KBBQ spots to hit San Diego and I've been going here since the late 2000's. The price used to be more affordable back then (about $20/pp) and they used to have a self-serve ice cream machine that was legit McDonald's quality. It's gone through a few changes over the years, but Jeong Won will always be top tier with their unique self-serve buffet style selections. With options like beef tongue, American wagyu, and short ribs on their standard selection, you really can't go wrong. There's always a crowd here and always so lively inside. I especially love all the clever quotes that have been plastered all over the walls and bathrooms since they first opened. With so many other Korean barbecue places that opened up in San Diego since then, it's crazy that Jeong Won is still one of my top choices. Jeong Won walked so they could FLY lol.
My friend wanted KBBQ so this was the closest spot. Though there may be plenty of eatery spots, for what we were looking for, we picked correctly. AMBIANCE: Parking: It's in a plaza however you're in Convoy so it can get pretty busy so do come early if you need to prep time for parking especially during lunch and dinner hours. Seating: Inside seating, room for maybe 50 people. Great for groups. Vibes: Welcome to Convoy! There are plazas and plazas of good eats! The spot itself is simple. It's nothing too flashy just a few pictures of food and some nice positive quotes displayed around the restaurant. I dig the lite rock music. Great place for group outings or a lowkey date night. FOOD: Meats (Recommend) Wow! It's basically unlimited. The setup is unique too. I'm usually familiar with servers giving you the meats but you basically go and get it yourself - with your choice of how much you want. You have your ground, air, and seafood, enjoy! Sides (Recommend) I really can't provide any recommendations since everything is good here. However, I would try to minimize your carb intake so you have more room for meats. The miso was nice to help digest food. Also, I would recommend trying to save room for frozen yogurt. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly people and helpful! TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Lovely! Great selections, reasonable prices, and a pleasant ambiance. Would I come back here? Most certainly! However in respect I do feel like I should try the other KBBQ spots but if I get too lazy or I need a go to, then this is my spot! TIPS: * Come hungry!
Met here for lunch with the fam on a weekday afternoon, pretty convenient that this is the only Korean place open early around 10am! I really like the self serve concept as I feel bad when Korean bbq restaurants bring out all those side dishes and I don't eat much of it. I love seeing all the different sauces I can use and that I can get my own quantity of anything. Lunch was $41 but hey it's all you can eat and came with drinks and dessert. The server was attentive and kept the buffet bar clean. Great experience, I'd probably get here early cause I can see it filling up fast!
This is our families go-to Korean BBQ in San Diego. Plenty to choose from, but we like coming here. Probably because its DIY! Just so much more convenient and not having to wait for service. Get up and go get your meat, sides, sauces, drinks, rice, and almost everything, at your own leisure. Parking is a serious pain, but we do our best not to let that bother us. There's street parking, but geeze that is even hard to find, so you have to be patient till someone leaves. Warning...these parking spots are small! Can't wait for our next visit back! PS....its fun to read all the different quotes, notes, etc on the wall. There's some I took a picture of attached here.
Glad we found this little mom and pop shop! It was opened an hour earlier than other Korean BBQ places. And it's definitely better than most Korean BBQ places that is self service. Smaller place though. Since we came pretty close to opening, everything was available and nice and neat. The owner even came around to talk to us. She was super friendly and talkative. I like the fact that you control your portions since I came with 2 other people. I didn't have to eat what they were eating. I got a variety of things and went back for the meats I liked. I also love their banchan choices. I got everything. Good kimchi and japgae too. Then the salad bar had a good selection too. Came with fountain drinks. Great sauce bar! It's more expensive then other kbbq in the area but I like portion controlling and I get to pick what I want without finishing a huge plate of it.
